The UK’s nuclear decommissioning sector is one of the most complex and high-stakes industries in the country.

In addition, security clearance requirements such as BPSS and DV can add months to hiring timelines, further slowing recruitment cycles.
Together, these constraints significantly reduce the number of immediately available candidates.

Nuclear decommissioning recruitment is not simply a hiring challenge — it is a national capability issue.
Without sustained investment in skills, smarter workforce planning, and improved talent attraction strategies, delivery timelines and safety outcomes could be impacted.
Encouragingly, government-backed skills programmes, apprenticeship expansion, and cross-sector mobility initiatives are beginning to address the gap.
However, demand continues to outpace supply, meaning competition for talent will remain intense.
