Offshore wind recruitment UK-wide is accelerating fast, as East Anglia THREE’s record monopile installation marks a major milestone in UK offshore wind construction.

The 1.4 GW project is driving significant recruitment demand across offshore installation, engineering, and onshore support roles. With HVDC infrastructure expansion and a 2030 target of 50 GW, early workforce mobilisation is critical for project success and delivery timelines.

On 25 April 2025, ScottishPower Renewables installed the first monopile at its £4 billion East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm, marking the official start of large-scale construction.

The 1,800-tonne foundation is the largest ever installed from a jack-up vessel in Europe. This milestone signals growing scale and technical complexity across UK offshore wind projects, and with it, rising offshore wind recruitment UK demand.

    Monopile Installation Signals Engineering Scale-Up

Each monopile stands 83.9 metres tall and 10.6 metres in diameter. These foundations are critical to supporting next-generation turbines in deeper waters.

The structures are being installed by specialist vessel Seaway Ventus, supporting a total of 95 turbine installations.

Advanced Turbine Technology and Supply Chain Impact

The project will deploy Siemens Gamesa SG 14.7-236 DD turbines. These high-capacity units are central to maximising output from the 1.4 GW site.

UK-based manufacturing and cable installation contractors are playing a key role, strengthening domestic supply chain capability.

    Project Timeline and Infrastructure Alignment

Foundation installation is scheduled for completion by mid-2026. First power is expected in late 2025, with full operations in 2026.

The project supports the UK’s 50 GW offshore wind target and relies on expanding HVDC infrastructure to transmit power efficiently.

Offshore Wind Recruitment UK Demand is Accelerating

Major installation phases are driving demand for offshore welders, crane operators, cable installation teams, and HSE professionals.

Technicians with offshore certifications and heavy-lift experience are particularly sought after during peak construction windows. For a broader view of the roles feeding this demand, see our guide to wind energy jobs UK-wide.

    Onshore and Lifecycle Roles Expanding

Onshore demand includes planners, logistics coordinators, and consent managers to support project delivery.

As projects transition to operations, maintenance technicians and blade repair specialists will see increased demand.

At peak construction, over 2,300 workers will be engaged across the project and its supply chain, underlining the scale of offshore wind recruitment UK-wide over the coming 18 months.
