Biogas Maintenance Engineer

Astute's Renewables team is partnered with an established and expanding business that owns and runs a portfolio of anaerobic digestion plants, to recruit a Maintenance Engineer for their site in Exeter.

Responsibilities and duties of the Maintenance Engineer role

Reporting to the Regional Plant Manager, you will:

• Be responsible for all operational equipment and machinery, including but not limited to front-end processing, pumping technology, digester and ancillary equipment, heating circuit and pasteurisation processes
• Follow, maintain and improve FIIX for all PPMs, inputting and detailing any repairs or services on machinery to enhance the maintenance regime against each piece of equipment
• Review and/or provide thorough method statements, risk assessments and permits to work for non-routine maintenance tasks
• Build and improve on a thorough planned preventative maintenance programme
• Support across three sites within the portfolio as and when needed
• Provide basic training, support and mentoring for site operatives
• Deliver planned improvements and refurbishments as part of the planned maintenance programme
• Ensure control measures and safe systems of work (SSW) are in place when undertaking any maintenance task
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure safe, tidy work areas
• Undertake any training requirements identified by your line manager to support you in your role
• Be part of an on-call rota

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• A recognised engineering qualification or demonstrable experience
• IOSH is desired
• Compex and ATEX is desired
• Telehandler licence or experience
• A full UK driving licence is essential

Personal skills

The Maintenance Engineer role would suit someone who has:

• Experience working in anaerobic digestion or a similar heavy processing environment, such as water treatment or food manufacturing
• Practical environmental and health & safety knowledge
• Electrical competence
• Computer literacy
• Essential mechanical, hands-on engineering experience
• Working knowledge of substrate pumps
• Confined space training
• Experience using and fixing pumps, valves, screw conveyors, gearbox drive units, heating circuits, macerators, hammermills and mixers
